View original topic: Another Mystery Plug Question

Since I didn't know what else to call them, I searched "Plug" and scanned through 10 pages of thread results. Didn't see anything. Obviously most threads had to do with electrical plugs or spark plugs.

I was under my van earlier today and noticed these white plastic brittle and cracking "plugs" in the body near the front jack mounts. The driver's side plug's center is knocked completely out and the passenger's side is on it's way.

Please see the yellow circles and arrow in the photos identifying the mystery plug.

Does anyone know the purpose for the plugs? Does anyone know where to source these or are you all just finding a correct size solid grommet and replacing? Or are you replacing at all? Seems like water would definitely enter if not plugged. I looked on and didn't see anything resembling them.

those are typically access plugs to spray rust proofing in the cavities. sometimes factory, sometimes dealer, sometimes after purchase.

if they are cracking out, pull them off, feel up in the cavity with your finger to see if it is all wet and spoogy in there. if so, i'd leave them off until that cavity dried out, then cover them back up with anything.

There are 4 of those, pull them all off and flush it out with a hose. You'll be amazed at the amount of dirt that comes out of it. When done put the plugs back in.

My mostly rust free Swedish Tristar had some rust at the left rear rocker by the jack point, There is a body pinch that is open that allows water to escape and it was plugged with a leave or twig and held wet dirt and rusted the rocker open, not much I caught it early.

I've since cleaned them out on my camper and every Van I work on I like to open them and flush them out, by this point point most of them have been painted over.

Beside the cavity wax access point function, those holes where the factory big metal sunroof has its water drains.
Flushing and re-applying cavity wax is a good idea.

For anyone who's flushed out these cavities, is there a danger of water entering the cabin? Or instead, can I use a high-pressure garden hose with no worry?

Thank all for the replies. I can now address these plugs with the information.
