Nothing new on this front, just enjoying it. Soon will send the gearbox for a rebuild as it is showing some "weaknesses". But hey, the car is almost 50 so nothing anormal..

My gearbox just showed up !
Now to find the time to exchange it and enjoy this car again!!

The 914 is in the shop again:
And the old gearbox is removed:
Now I will change the clutch, clean/paint everything that goes around the gearbox and that I removed, and then it will be back on the road !

New gearbox in with cleaning/painting/rebuilding of the parts around and new clutch+clutch cable:
And after a short test drive.. it's officially back on the roads :
I even took it to a car meeting on sunday :

Big tour this weekend with the local karmann ghia club. As my ghia still isn't finished, I drove with the 914. Super nice people, great roads, and the 914 behaved perfectly during the 1100kms, no matter how warm it was!

So, not so much news, I am just enjoying the car a lot.
One thing I always wanted to improve was the driver's seat, it is not holding me enough in curves.. now I am improving it!

I wanted since the beginning to have the GT door panel with the leather door strap so..as usual, I decided to build it myself!
Some wood, some aluminium and the structure is there:
Mounted the leather strap and suppressing the extra spring:
A bit of leather and:
Voilà !
I just love the look !

Curious how the GT door pulls allow for locking/ unlocking the car?
Just the key from the outside then?
No way to lock the car from the inside? Is that right? |
