I need to replace the window scrapers on the driver's side and passanger side doors. I purchased a set of window scrapers from one of the on line vendors (I don't remember which one). They were supost to be "Genuine German Replacements." There was a sticker on the package that said they came from "Pacific Parts International", who is a wholesale only importer of VW parts.
When I went to install the new window scrapers, the metal clips will not latch into the slots in the door. The original clips are shaped like a christmas tree, with a "notch" at the base, so that they will latch into the door slot. The replacement window scrapers have clips that are wedge shaped, with no notch at the base to latch into the slot.
Does anyone have a way to make these work and latch into place?
Does anyone have a source of window scrapers that use clips that latch into the doors? |

I think the consensus is to use the original clips with the new scraper. |

Both of the front doors on our 69 need new scrapers.
I have also read that you must use the old clips and toss the new ones.
*Everyone* I have asked about the job hates the thought of doing it.
*No One* will do it for any amount of money. |

Oh joy, that sounds soooo encouraging  . Yah, I've gotten that impression already. The fit of the aluminum trim piece leaves room for alot of improvement as well. |

It’s not as bad as people say and the new clips do fit; they just require a little extra umph to snap into place. Once installed, mine stayed put. It took about 3 hrs a side to install. This did not include removal time as this was post resto rebuild. Most of the time required is being careful not to slip and kill the paint. Your hands will be sore, dynamic tension. You can definitely do it. |

Yes, this will work better than using the clips supplied with the new scraper.
This also applies to the inner scrapers, the rubber ones, that have the complicated bent spring wire that fastens the scraper to the door. The wires supplied with the new scrapers are not formed as well as the old ones and using the old one with the new rubber bit can be a big help. |
