hey-

no recent progress here. i have been working on the beetle with my garage time. the truck is currently being a storage area for that project.

It was that photo that prompted me to check out the truck thread again 🤪😎

Jimone Sat Aug 12, 2023 5:15 am

lol sure.

i mostly decided that i wasnt going to get two projects done at once so im focusing on the beetle (three projects if you include the attic full of parts). the bug is mostly complete and i already have competency in most of the tools and methods for that project too.

after i get the bug running ill double back and decide what the next course of action is on this beast.

still keeping my eye out for parts.

picked at the truck a bit recently.

found a can of touch-up paint

slapped some on. color is spot on.

cleaned the tires

westleys bleche-whit

did some cleaning on the nose

getting better all the time

took out the correct steering column. this one is an 11/54. the one i had previously installed was for a later bus.

insides look pretty good

much better. now i need to pick up a keyed steering wheel. all of mine are splined.

the case on the other hand....

gathering parts continues.

crank start breast plate

heater boxes. they are pretty nasty. i think theyll clean up though.

generator and regualtor. this is a 10J so october 53.

crank start nuts.

Keep it up. Multiple builds are always fun and eventful when searching for these rare parts. =D> =D> ](*,)

Congrats!

That roof and your Single Cab have a date with destiny.

I can't wait to see it attached on your bus.

type241 Mon Oct 02, 2023 12:06 pm

Is that YOUR roof or is it from another SC? What is the story on the roof?

The roof came from a Barndoor Single cab from Mr. Chips place in Ontario.

Below is a picture of the Single Cab that the roof came from at Mr. Chips before it got cut up

The roof was for sale on this site recently

im pretty pumped.

soon! i had the opportunity to go and look at it in person this past weekend. the owner and i shook hands. i go pay him and pick it up in a couple weeks.

to add a bit about the cab in the pic - The current owner brought them down from Chipps. i first heard about this cab around the time i started posting on here in 2021. it gets mentioned on the first page of this thread. i got in touch. after two years of back and forth i finally got to see it in person!

i enjoyed chatting with the gentleman. we share a love of rusty old cars after all. he mentioned that he had some pictures from acquiring the roof that he would track down. i hope i get to see them! some fun stories about that roadtrip would be cool too.

I love your thread, I have followed the barndoors thread for many years, I admire your options in your great country, I am from the Czech Republic, and these cars have never been here. I bought a cut up 51 wreck in Germany. And looking for repair parts. Hi Ivan Czech Republic. I. Novotný

thank you friend! barndoor parts are pretty scarce here in kansas as well. it seems to me most of the barndoors in america are in new england or california.

here are some more pics

got the cab set in place. we are a long way from permanently attaching it.

its got some problems

back window is solid

front windows are a bit worse.

there is some pitting on the inside of the roof.

overall im thrilled. this piece is straight and solid. this project just took a huge step forward.

thank you stickupguy for keeing it safe and dry for me for the last 30 years!

Congratulations with your roof Jim!

You almost have a complete Single cab now. I'm very happy for you. Keep this great project going.

obieoberstar Mon Oct 16, 2023 10:00 pm

congratulations on the roof. great history for this build.

Jimone Wed Oct 18, 2023 4:56 am

thanks! felt good to pick that part up. now i wont have to spend as much time explaining that the rusty rectangle in the garage is actually a truck...

ive made some progress on tracking down the "corbett painting co" history. i got in touch with the spingfield historical society. they sent me some info that may have helped make some connections. i have more research to do to make sure the info is leading me to the right places.. should be an interesting post when i get around to putting that together.

thanks!

i love the work you are doing on that smooth gate! if you have anything useful left over from your project feel free to shoot me a message. it would be cool to have a piece of that truck make its way into this project.
