Did an oil change today and for the second time in as many oil changes, I found these plastic bits under the screen. No metal to be found, which is good, but what the heck are these and from where, I wonder.

Remnants of petrified valve guide seals from long ago, nothing to worry about, they didn't do much anyways and they won't damage anything if they get ingested.

Thanks for the info. I'll sleep better tonight.

If and when you get your heads rebuilt try to remember to tell the rebuilder you don't want to have valve stem seals installed. There are good arguments that installing the seals actually increases valve guide wear. I know my old 1800 didn't get them when I rebuilt it and the heads went for 250K miles and the engine never used oil and the valve stems were still tight in their guides when the engine was torn down.
