Tom, the bracket covers you have pictured are for the front bumper. The holes are for the stabilizer(?) arm that goes through then attaches to the bracket. Rear bumper covers are as Marc has pictured. I don't remember what year you have, but the blue set in the pic look like what fit my 71.

Thanks marcdeb! Jeff, when I look at that picture that I posted, I see two different sized brackets. Is that an illusion? All are the same? Are fronts different than rears? |

I have two of these (the other is symmetrically reversed):

Yes, the pic looks like the others are smaller than the blue set. My fronts and rears appear to be the same size and look similar to the blue set and are opposing. Those shown are for the fronts, the rears do not have holes in the tops.

Like Jeff said, these are for the front bumper, AND they are for 70/71. The side that goes up against your front apron will not match up very well if you were to try to use them on a 65. For a 65, you want there to be two mounting holes on the side, not the single hole. same for the rears, you want two mounting holes on the side of the rear covers.
All of the pictures you've posted are of front covers. The picture of the 5 together in the same picture look to all be pre 70 front covers. Some look smaller in the picture, but I think it's only the way the picture was taken. They all look to be the same parts. |

I'm still assembling the various pieces. Maybe I found another difference between early and later bumpers. The support bracket that matches the bracket cover with one screw hole for later models (see above) has a very different shape from the support bracket with two holes.
Here is the old and new side by side (blue is new, i e, later model) and with the covers on:
You can't tell much of a difference. But if you remove the covers, you see the difference:
The older bracket has a very different curvature than the newer. The new bracket is straight. The old one is curvy. I'm guessing this difference will matter during assembly if one used the wrong support bracket.
But what is the reason for this difference? Is the center towel bar of the early model a different length? Or are the main bumper brackets closer or further apart when mounted to the chassis on earlier models? |

Hey guys I have a we are predicament. I'm working on a 63 and this rear bumper bracket that I supposedly is the rear super short.
It's not the front bracket, I already checked.

The bracket attachments should be more widely spaced. What you have is not the correct part.
This my ‘66 which should be the same as your ‘63.

Agreed!! hahaha funny thing is, the guy I got these brackets from says they came off a ghia but obvously there's something fishy going on here.
I have another 63 I looked at today and the bumpers I have are correct.
Guess I'm just gonna have to order a set from Airhead Parts and call it.
Thank you Nicholas!!
