Iʻm looking for advice on how to repair a 6-8" tear in the screen in the front of the pop-up tent on my 87 Westy.

Please advise.

Just get a piece of similar screen and sew it on with a needle and thread like a patch. If you try and pull it together and sew you'll do more damage. They also make a screen patch tape, but I don't know how good it is. Google screen patches.

I installed the Fanchers screen and it made it like new. I highly recommend it.

This is my second screen replacement on my 87. The first didn't last all the folding and developed tears in it.
I tried to fix those tears with the peel and stick screen tape but that was a bad look. So, I made another to glue in as I had the first time.
I made a pattern out of cardboard and transferred it to screen.
The Fancher's instructions gives a great step by step if you make or buy a screen from them.
