Sorry Eric - I meant Drums...
as for the brake lines, I hope they don't fail, all done only 8 weeks ago, at the same time as these dam brakes.
So, sorry to be a pain, the D will fit the C?
I'm new to all this... First VW!
I'm signing off tonight but thank you very much for your help. |

No worries, just wanted to keep the flow of info clear of misunderstandings.
Not sure, would check the chassi numbers the "C" will fit and thusly the years. "D" just might be a post-1967 (AUG1967 is start of 1968 model year) type 1 part, so would be four lug. Heading out the door in a few minutes for first leg to the Seattle VW Vintage meet.
Congrats on your first ACVW!! You will have much to learn. Hopefully you enjoy a bit of a challenge. If you do not have the Bentley reprint of the original VW dealer workshop manual.

Yes it is pricey, but worth every cent, get a copy ASAP. That manual will save you a lot of time the $$ in the long run. You might find a used one for a little less than a hundred bucks if you check the TS classifieds daily and keep an eye open out at your local VW swap meets.
Later you will need the less costly Official Service Manual/s for the type 1 manual to match your brakes and engine.
Glad to help! |

| What rims are you using and lug bolts? It’s also possible your lugnits are too long causing damage. |

Hi Johny,
I've read through some old post from a previous owner and they suggest they are something called wide 5 which uses wheels bolts.
What ever wide 5 is?
Wheels are I believe south african sprint stars. |

Wide 5 describes the bolt pattern for the wheels.
Basically; it means the wheel has five holes for lug nuts/bolts that are widely spaced around the wheel with a 205mm pitch circle diameter (5 x205). They are a 'lug-centric' design, where the wheel is centred by tightening the lug nuts or wheel bolts The nuts/bolts take all the weight of the vehicle.
In comparison; modern light-duty car and van wheels are a 'hub centric' design where the wheels have a larger central hole (larger than the wheel nut/bolt holes) that fits snugly over a projecting central hub. The wheel nuts or bolts just clamp the wheel to the hub. The hub takes all the weight and the nuts or bolts are closer to the hub (not 'wide' spaced).
There is a useful glossary of terms in the archive section.

More info about bolt patterns here. https://vw.zenseeker.net/Wheels-BoltPattern.htm
To confuse matters further; the original 'wide five' wheels used bolts that screwed through the wheel in to the drum. Some after market wheels need to fit on to studs, so owners thread bolts/studs through from the inside of the drum, so they project outside as studs. They then use nuts on the studs to clamp the wheel to the drum. |

If you paid for that work ask for your money back. That looks like shit, I would never let a vehicle out of a shop that way. |
