A friend of mine just bought another fasty and i drove it home yesterday. The other fasty and squareback we have are motorless so this is the first type 3 i have ever driven. It was so much fun! I was impressed by the handling given that it has such narrow tires. It was about a twenty mile trip to where we were going and i got about 2 miles from my house and the motor blew a seal!!! It started smoking really bad because the oil was dripping or should i say gushing all over the muffler. When we got to the house my friend asked me if it was raining. It turns out i was covering his truck with oil! Is there a good seal kit for the 1600 engine i can pick up from somewhere that is reliable and inexpensive?
About the car!! He paid $1250 for it. It's a 71 model that is in need of a new interior, paint, and now a engine rebuild. I thought the price was high until we got the papers! It is a one owner car with all the papers including the sticker and sales papers. It also had the promo book from the dealership from my hometown vw dealer that doesn't exist anymore and another little book called "small world, an introduction to your 71 volkswagen" & the cleanest owners manual that i have ever seen! The original owners traded in their 1963 ghia and got $560 for it (not bad! in 71) and paid $2500 for the fasty. Seeing these papers made us grin ear to ear!!!! :D I guess it wasn't such a bad deal after all!
