View original topic: Commercially available adjustable beam that tops at stock height

Forgive me if I've missed this in other threads, I've lost count of the ones I've read about beams.

My 74 has a stock front beam, replacing it might be my winter project or learning to weld so I can fix the existing one up is. Is there no such thing as a commercially available adjustable beam where the maximum height is stock? Dozens of places sell narrowed or lowered adjustable beams. I have been advised if I want to be at stock height I can't use an adjustable beam.

Lowered is cool to look at but its just not my thing (pun alert). I'm running stock 14" wheels and drums and not looking to switch those out at this point in time. Is the only way to maintain stock height a non-adjustable stock beam?

Maybe I'll want to lower it someday, just not today, it might be cool to have the option without replacing the beam again down the road.

If anyone has a rebuildable Thing beam with in a few hours drive of Cleveland message me!

My only experience with an adjustable beam was on a 68 Beetle. PO had it lowered, I didn't like it. Cranked a nut in the middle of the beam back to stock height and drove, sold it later. As I recall, it was only one nut but I could be wrong. My point is, get an adjustable beam and set it at stock height...or call Mike Basso at Thing Parts in NY and ask him. He would know.

I might reach out, I saw the beams he had for sale on his site for a long time. Jokes on me for not buying one back then :)
