I'm installing aftermarket middle seat grab bars on a full-width middle seat in a 1966 Deluxe Bus. The parts came from WCM, whose people tell me they just sell the parts, they have no expertise on installation. So...
The top photos show the grab bar ends, which appear to have holes pre-drilled in them. The bottom photos show the receiving end of an un-upholstered middle seat frame, and as you can see the holes are 90ยบ out from the holes drilled into the grab bar ends.
My question is, do I use a self-tapping screw through the existing seat-frame holes and into the un-drilled grab bar end? Or drill out the bar end first using the frame hole as a guide, then a machine screw? If so, any idea what size screw and which head style? Keep in mind this will be done through a freshly upholstered seat (not the one in the picture). Thanks...

I have not installed new grab handles but originals use the same screws and washers as the door panel screws.
These are not self-tapping so I would drill a little hole first using the seat frame hole location as a guide. |

Excellent, just the information I needed. I'll do that. Thanks! |

On my 65 the grab handle screws are slightly longer than the trim panel screws although the shorter trim panel screws secure the grab handle fine. |

I planned to use the screws WW includes in their grab bar attachment hardware kit. If I don't like the way the first one goes in, I'll switch to something else. Thanks! |
