I'm almost sure this isn't the correct thread, but I couldn't find anything better and don't think it deserves it's own thread, so I'll post it here... (Been lurking this forum for a long time by the way(especially VW38 thread))

So I saw this "abandoned traffic jam in Belgium" article pop-up on a website. It's about a car graveyard in Chatillon. It says the cars once belonged to US soldiers who were stationed there, and when World War II ended, it was too expensive to ship the cars back to the US, so they decided to leave them in Belgium. They drove them up a hill and parked them hidden from the outside world.

As you know, WWII ended in 1945, so it's safe to say these cars are all pre-1945...

So then I noticed they have a picture of a rusting Beetle in there too... So this must be a pre-1945 Beetle... So I assume it *could* be a pretty early/special car?
Personally I don't know enough to recognize really early Beetles(apart from the straight corners on hood/decklid etc), and the photo doesn't show that, but I'm sure someone can see what it is.
All I can see is that it's a split and it should be pre-1945, and it's probably not a KDF cause they don't have those vents in the front fenders...?

That said, I'd imagine that if it really was anything special, someone would've rescued it already, it isn't exactly the most secret place in the world. Regardless, I'll post it's picture just in case, I'm sure someone will post what it is/could be.

After some googling, it seems like there are a lot of Beetles parked in that place, even big-window ones?! Weird. I imagine that means someone must've already gone through this place to see if there's any truely valueable cars there then.

At the end of the war the troops had just arrived in their jeeps etc. some months ago.
So there where no civil cars to leave by then.
Those ones in that place might have been left by US troops but much later.
I see lots of 50s and even 60s stuff.
Still an amazing place and maybe still some good parts to find.
