Hey! I have a question about my exhaust f pipe (77 bus)
I've discovered a leak where the flank was brazed to the pipe. I'm not too worried about fixing that part, but I wanted to point out how warped it looks. Should both flanges be perpendicular to the main pipe? I'm thinking I just need to source another manifold. I should also mention that this was a major PITA to remove from the head. Thoughts?

Realizing that I probably tweaked this while trying to remove it.
So to clarify my question... did I ruin this thing? |

I'd do some bending and tweaking before brazing it back up, after all those years and miles and heat cycles they all warp, it requires things like long pry bars in each pipe to spread or narrow the gap, large pipe wrenches to twist, sometimes even a scissor jack between the flanges. Once you get it so it slides on the ports freely braze it up and belt sand or file until the faces of both flanges are parallel and perpendicular to the pipes, sit it on a piece of glass or a table saw table to check the progress. Anneal the gaskets when installing too.
I doubt a replacement used part will me much better than what you have now, sooner or later they all need work. |
