I am going to be putting a 68 DC on the road next summer and she needs new boots. On a Westy the 8 ply tires are reccommended and I do use them. A DC is lighter but it will be used as a truck so it will be loaded now and again.
Thoughts?

| 185x14 LT's look best imo. Passenger tires are for lowered/neutered trucks |

Agreed, but they are about $1000 by the time they get to my door. Looks might happen a bit later, but I will be driving it so I need it to be safe.
On a Westy I have done both and enjoy the extra stability in a cross wind, etc. For the DC the center of gravity is lower and the weight is lighter, at least until it is loaded. What do you figure?

$609 with free shipping. Definitely less than $1000.

| Depending on your use, you might consider a set of 27x8.5r14's they offer a bit more flotation and can handle abuse well. |

| You have a little time to shop around, but don't settle for less than LT or load range C rated tires, it's a truck, whether you think so or not you'll load it up, be prepared. |

| And since you live in the Yukon you need great tires. |

I like this tire.
Free shipping on a set of tires from the USA to the Yukon probably isn't a thing though. They ARE available in Canada - unlike most Bus tires that are for sale in the USA. |

$800 cdn but no free shipping and 1800 miles to get 'em here! Probably about $750-800 US delivered to me, maybe more. I do agree with everyone, I like the LT's and used them for years on my westy. Looks like I have a set or two needing come this way, darn it! Kind of figured, but doesn't hurt to get a few opinions! It might be on regular tires at first, depending on cash flow, but that will mean no serious loads until the LT's are on.
Thanks!

No mention of the tire sticky?
There are other, less expensive tires out there.
Depends on availability, I know. |

Kal Tire lists 2 tires in the 185R14C size. The Vanco 4 Season which is an all season tire and the Vanco Winter. They are probably sitting is a warehouse down here in the Lower Mainland so they may try to charge you shipping. Tell them to bring the tires in with their regular order and see if they back off on the shipping cost. These are commercial tires so not much of a warranty.
Other tires that may exist in the US or back east are not likely available here. They may be some brands around but I could not find anything when I looked last year. Few off brands that I have never hear of.
I settled with the Vanco 4 season. Decent tire, quiet and I was just out in the rain and no surprises. Sidewalls may not be quite as stiff as other tires. FYI. |

I wonder if Continental might still list something? I can get those here and perhaps they could be brought into a regular dealership, as you say.
Worth a phone call, thanks!

Any tire store can mount tires if you have stock wheels. |

Yes, Continental VancoFourSeason is distributed in Canada. It's a very good Bus tire in the stock size. The SKU is 04515160000.
It's possibly a bad time of the year to get them, in my experience the distributors under-order these and they run out of them in late summer but you never know. |

Thanks guys, some good practical choices here. Might consider the Grabbers, both for availability reasons and also for the more aggressive tread. I like the Hankooks for their slightly stiffer sidewalls and I think on a heavy camper like my westy they are superior highway tires. The DC will be a more local machine and the extra tread will be nice.
Thanks!
