Nice.
Now if you had one for the K24Z3 I'd be first in line. |

Ran a few sets of exhaust out of 304 stainless. They came out pretty nice and fit perfectly

Took me a few months of working on this on the side but I finally got it done. Below are pictures of the full K-swap mount kit and exhaust system. It is a very straight forward installation and uses only existing hole locations so no drilling required.

Your kit looks amazing. Appreciate your skills.
A little off topic, but my wife doesn't drive stick. Just wondering if anyone thinks it would be possible to mate the Subi 4EAT to this with proper positioning for drive shafts and clearances. |

That's a good question Vanderbuilt. With the native Subaru 2.5 and 4EAT automatic I believe the rear engine mounting has to be moved rearward about 30mm. If mating a K24A with 4EAT there'd be the thickness of the adapter plate to factor into the measurements. |

The KEP website says they are currently working on adapters for the Subaru transaxle. I suppose if they could make a K-series to 4EAT kit it could be made to fit somehow. |

I looked at the Subarugears website and they say they have an adapter for Honda K to 4EAT. I guess someone needs to try it to see if it can be done. |

I'm on this this but being in California, I will have to figure out the emissions systems and passing BAR to get a sticker for future smog tests. I met a guy at the smog station where I took my Syncro when I first registered it. We were talking in depth about dealing with engine swaps. Since my Syncro was first registered in Maine, he wasn't sure what I specifically would need or if there were any differences than a California delivered Syncro. His experience on swaps were for off road use only.
My initial guess would be based on the new engine and required smog equipment. Previous registration would not matter. From 10 minutes with Google, it appears that it can be done, we just need the bits and bobs to make it pass the visual and smog. The devil will be in the details.
Not ready to pull the trigger on doing it just yet but certainly seems like a viable alternative to a Subaru 2.2 which KEP already has made CARB legal. I will be watching for other builds that have to deal with California. |

I am no expert on CARB, but here's what I think the bottom lines are: You either have the sticker a la kennedy or every single component has to match from the transplanted system- the ECU, the wiring, the exhaust, everything. So, something like this using aftermarket engine management with no sticker already in place- ain't going to happen. |

I think you are right in that statement and that is why any swaps use everything from the source. Each changed part must have CARB approvals which adds to the complexity. I think that is why there isn't an alternative to the KEP solution. Now that Colorado and other states are starting to follow the California SMOG path, and the age of the Subaru 2.2, the market for engine swaps might become more viable.
Since I'm not in the market today, I have the ability to wait and see where this goes. |

Whats the ground clearance vs the 2.5 subie?

Engine changes are perfectly legal in California. The CARB rules are pretty straightforward on how to do it.
The issue with California is the subjectivity of the bar referees and an overall lack of understanding on their part (evidenced by mayoman’s post). Referees have too much authority to reject vehicles on opinions or their own personal interpretation of law rather than the scientific data from the smog equipment.
If I lived in California I think it would be easy enough to get guidance from a referee that actually knew the process and how to do it along with the ability to smog check a vehicle for developmental purposes. I live in Georgia though and do not have access to a shop that could perform a CARB test or else I would. |

I don’t have a Subaru to measure but would be curious to know. What is the distance from the ground to your oil pan and also ground to your rear fender lip? |
