Front tunnel mat for Model 114 (RHD) is different to 113 (LHD). I would assume this is correct because of the different location of the pedal cluster on the RHD.
Edit: I've checked the parts manual and they show different numbers.
AFAIK the rear section would be the same as there is no difference between RHD and LHD at the rear. |

There was a change in colour around Year 58, grey or black. Depends on the chassis number. |

Hi vking with ii
I am in need or the part number for the RHD rubber floor mat and cannot find it anywhere. Search here and the closest is your posts. I just cannot find the RHD part number and this is a link to the floor mat I need but for RHD, preferably in gray. I know they are apparently scarce as rocking horse poop but a part number is a start.

for info, 1972 South African beetle and the rubber I had, was not appreciated! as usual
If you could help either with a link to part number or the part number, I would be ever so grateful.
Thanks |

The secret that no-one tells you about is that a full parts listing of most(not all) VW's are available at OACDP.
http://oacdp.org/type1part.html
Download each of the section files as a pdf and you can do all the research you want.
So you end up with a file that has a number of numbered Illustrations and then a list of parts and VIN numbers and model types for each part you need. It requires a bit of care in deciphering each number.
You need to know your VIN number so that you get into the right reference. There will be multiple years using the exact number with suffixes that change when changes were made. Some changes happened every few years, some in mid-year or shorter. In some cases the part numbers are NOT in chronological order so if you cannot find the number in the year range you expect you can keep looking further as sometimes the numbers appear to be a bit jumbled up.
Now in your case you need to know your model number. RHD cars were 112 (what we in Oz would call the Standard or Non-Deluxe model), 114 the RHD Deluxe, 116 the Standard RHD with sunroof and 118 RHD Deluxe with sunroof. Super Beetles are 132.
Now I do not know if there were special model number codes for SA Beetles but I doubt there is any reference to them in the OACDP. It doesn't appear to differentiate any Australian made VW's which were designated Model 192. In the case of mats and things I wouldn't expect any differences between a German made and SA or Australian made Beetle. Why would you complicate matter by having a manufacturer for small parts only. The only time I know for certain that part numbers were different in Australia made Beetles compared to Germany was for things like generators, electrical equipment which was manufactured locally by Bosch in Australia.
So if you go to Main Group 8:Body.
Then Illustration 50 (Page 8-168)
Then you will see reference to part 18. Floor Mat.
Then go to the tabulated listing and look for your year range.
Then you need to look ONLY for references to RHD models (which are even numbers).
I looked for a while and I could only find two references for 1972.
Right side black - 112 863 712C up to Jan 72
Right side black - 112 863 712D from Feb 72.
Hopefully that can help. You can do the rest for homework. :D
As you have pointed out they are rare. I have been searching for 10 years and have never found rubber mats in RHD for my 68. Even torn ratty ones that come up for sale are quickly snapped up - like in minutes.
So most of us RHD owners end up installing the (incorrect) carpeted versions as floor covering. Flat 4 in Japan does have rubber mats they supplied in the Japanese RHD VW's. Look for In-630A and IN-630B.

Now saying all of the above, you have a SA built Beetle. Like the Australian made Beetles, there may be unique and different parts used in their manufacture.
Good luck in finding some and let me know if you ever find 2 sets. |

I just want to say, sorry. I have just seen your reply (old challenged man here) and wanted to apologise. There is nothing worse than writing something and taking the time to help and getting absolutely no response. I did not have the notify me selected below.
I am going off to read what you wrote.
Thank you so much.
edit: your write up is fantastic. Yes! I have a little-lot of homework. I promise to let you know if I find mats. Again, much appreciated.

No problem. I did not really expect a reply. I'm in my 70's and have to remember to put on my trousers in the morning. :D :D :D :D
I like helping out people especially in the RHD world as our cars are pretty special and rare compared to LHD world. As you can tell I tend to be verbose in my replies. I used to write technical manuals for Standard Operating Procedures so I try to be very exact in imparting information.
I searched for years trying to find out a reference/parts book and came across the OACDP reference by accident. It's something that is not well advertised, so I take the opportunity to help out.
We were ALL once new at this. |

You have over a decade on me and I would forget my head if it was not screwed on.
Not so much as 'new' at this but just not doing much. Never pulled an engine before, so that was a scary prospect. Getting back in is going to be a challenge. I just don't have the strength I did twenty years ago. Also a lot of wear and tear on my body, not the beetle, has left me struggling with basics. I came to the site to see if I could find definitive, brands for quality rubber available here in the USA. That was when I realised you had replied.
Anyway, do appreciate the banter.

As far as rubber items I’ve imported at great expense (shipping) stuff from West Coast Metric. Things like window and door rubbers, seals for exterior fittings and the quality imo is the best and long lasting. |
