View original topic: need more leg room

On my '57 bug I'd like to move the drivers seat back further. I'm 6ft. 4" and could use a little more room. Stock seats
I don't want to mess with the floor tracks. I think 3" back would help .
Cutting the bottom of the seat tracks off and re-welding them 3" forward.
Anybody have other ideas?

Remove the seat and use the back seat? :D

How is the headroom? Maybe just make a custom seat bottom that would allow you to lower it and move it back. I believe Mika makes the seat side of the track. That way, you can keep the original one intact in case you want to sell the car.

From a safety standpoint, I would recommend moving the tracks. The seat too far forward or backward may not have good engagement with the tracks, where the seat could be more likely to pop off in an accident.

Or make and offset frame for the lower seat frame somehow. Sturdy of course.

Can you fabricate an intermediate piece? One that both track can engage into and be allowed to slide on. Like a full extension cabinet drawer slide.

One thing you might consider is a decent seat recliner. I have a HULS recliner on one of my cars and it relocates the seatback and adds adjustability- something like that just might get you an extra couple inches.
I'm a short person, but with the recliner I have to slide my seat up a bit further than usual so I know it's moving the driver position back at least a little bit.
