Wondering if the seat frames are interchangeable left to right? I know the handles for the adjuster would need to be swapped left to right, but is that all?

My 54 seats are for sure. Have had them in both ways when I had an issue with the seat backs not aligning.

Cool, but I should have been more specific. I have a clients 57 here, and he has a beat driver seat bottom, where it's been beat back and forth with a hammer. I have some passenger side bottoms, but didn't want to go to the trouble of disassembling them to find out they wouldn't work.

I rebuilt my 54' seats from scratch and reassembled using new WW pads and the original upholstery. When apart every piece left or right looked the same to me. And seats to swap side to side with no differences I could find. Adjuster is always on the right and there's no backrest knob...so I don't see any differences at all.

I think esde is asking about 56 onward seats that have a small adjustment lever to change the seatback position. I have not measured the differences so cannot speak to the only difference being the adjuster. Yes, earlier seats are interchangeable. It would not be hard to take some measurements and see for yourself if the fix you're proposing will work.
