Have 2387 (94/86) I'm building for my 57. Have dual 51.5 IDA webers on CB Big beef manifolds. Trying to get ideas as to what people have had to do to fit the engine in the car with that setup. Thanks in advance.

Iʻve found the easiest way to fit my big bore 40hp in my ʻ57 is to install it as a long block and install everything else after. Meaning decklid and hinge mounts off and once longblock is in install front and rear tins, shroud, intake, exhaust, and accessories. A pain but really the easiest way. Iʻm not even sure you can install a long stroke motor without modifying the engine compartment sheetmetal. Iʻm certain someone who has done it will chime in.

You’re gonna have to take the carbs and manifolds off to install the motor. I would suggest put it all together outside the car if you can and run it to make sure you have no problems and then pull the manifolds with the carbs on them off and set the motor in.

and likely rocker covers (probably will need to trim bumper mount too...

You can forget trying to use any kind of air filter except stack filters. On my 57 the left carb was right up against the firewall. You're going to have to trim the bumper mounts to clear the valve covers. Exhaust and carbs will have to go on after engine is in. Depending on how wide the engine is, you'll probably have to trim either the cylinder tin or side panels in the engine bay.

well, crap. NOW you tell me, after I have already done it..K&N motorcycle filters, decklid NOT popped at the top or the bottom, and negligible power loss....

I used c pin height pistons on my 2387. More narrow than a stock 1600.

I appreciate all the info from you guys. Like the motorcycle filter setup. I bought the smallest stacks and got the little screen filters to go over them. Guess I will see what needs done to bumper brackets and etc when I test fit motor. Once done I will post some pictures and what I had to do.

You could always run shorty IDA manifolds…will lose some top end power though
