Where is that registration number from? Not a format I recognise. |

Good question,
sorry, I don“t know, but how about the region balkan, maybe Greek or Yugoslawia between around 1950 and 1970?
But it should not be a problem to find out, where the newest pic was made. Perhaps that helps. |

On one hand you could see wanting to restore that car, but on the other hand, it would be a crime to reverse the history of that car. Especially since there are pictures from back in the day, and I would assume an interesting back story. |

I agree, I would like to see more post-war adapted kubels and schwimmers at shows etc |

Hi
Old french number plate registered 04/10/1954 in the Orne, a part of Normandie .
For the story, in 1973 I was looking for a starter for my 1965 VW bus at a junkyard in the suburbs of Strasbourg. I saw on a pile a car like a jeep with the back cut and you could see an gearbox like a beetle.
At this time I didn't know what is was... a schwimmwagen with also french number plate! 8) |

Very nice,
but who knows more about the 12 maroon brown beetles, half gloss and parts for the Soviet Union delivered July 15th 1946 along 10 0020 examples of VW vehicles 1946 and further 30 beetles for the SMAD, Berlin in 1947? |

perfectly timed for our discussion on whether to restore cars or keep their post-war condition. the french barn find 'white shark' is now in the wheatcroft collection and, other than a clean, will not be restored

met an old friend today. I moved house to dorset last month and today I was just leaving lidl's car park and bemoaning the traffic when I spotted a familiar car in the vw dealership window. JLT420 is the 1947 beetle known as one of the first in the uk. here it is back in the late 40s at the colborne-baber garage.
in the heritage of dorchester showroom
