Fantastic work there. I really like the way the tweed fabric vs the vinyl fits the roof line.

That gas holder is cool as F. What a great gift from a friend.

Have a Happy New Year Gary.

Thanks so much and you too!! I'm going back out there right now to fix those baggies...pics to follow!

The Pilch Sat Dec 28, 2024 6:31 pm

Today, although from the pics I didn't do much, was very enjoyable. I fixed some of the bagginess in the headliner and also some of the glue that let go, I reglued...

I am very pleased how the carpet and headliner in the rear parcel area line up...

I found that my interior light lens is broken - my friend Dave has one for ten bucks, I'll take it!!

Then I wondered should I add an ashtray in the rear door card?

Well, yes, I shall, after polishing it up real good first...

Then I went to Lowes to get some more Aluminum Peel N Seal...holy cow it's $20 a roll now! That crap used to be $6.99!!!! Anyways, I added some more Peel N Seal sound deadener and also began fitting some of the carpet pieces...

I am pleased with progress today.

Cheers!!

Ahh thanks mate I appreciate that!

I'm going out there in a minute to continue, it's cold today though so not sure how long my old-ass-knee can stand the chill.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL! BE SAFE AND STAY DUBBIN!!

The Pilch Tue Dec 31, 2024 3:41 pm

I did indeed brave the cold, got the propane heater going and laid some more sound insulation in the floors...

I also laid the two "heater-channel pieces" of carpet. Contrary to my distain of the 3M Super90 spray glue, being that for a headliner, it sprays in every direction BUT the one you want and is generally very messy, I fully endorse said adhesive for carpets, as the mess doesn't really matter down here on the floor...

I also test fitted the center/rear piece of carpet, and of course, it's not the best fit (TMI from JBugs) so a little "fannying around" will be needed to get it sitting flush...

Also, I need a new ebrake gaitor, because the collar of the gaitor it sits UNDER the carpet, and also this one is so stiff and brittle this interior deserves better...So I can't lay this piece of carpet yet anyways...

I test fitted the kick panel pieces, and I have a question for you all...

Would I punch out the vent hole, and glue it like this...

OR

Would I try and relief cut the carpet and glue it into this recess to make it look more "wrapped" in carpet?

Show me yours. Is there a wooden panel supposed to go there?

For now, cheers everyone and Happy New Year! Mr and Mrs ThePilch xxx

Hello Gary-
I took a couple of photos of my panels for you. I believe the carpets are original to the car. No wood. Just glued to the channels. I suspect your new ones are a lot stiffer than my old ones. Hope this helps.

Wanna come to Hawaii and fix my headliner when you are done with your car?
Ha!

Hauoli Makahiki Hou! to you and the Mrs in 2025.

Mate, happy new year to you and the family!!

Thank you so much for uploading these pics - that helps a lot!

SO after work yesterday I cut the vent hole out of the kick panel carpet...

...but with it in place I thought it looked a bit rough what with a slightly "unfinished" vent showing through...

So I did the old trick of masking the area off..

...and hitting it with matt black, which hides a lot...

...as you can see here, ones' eye is not drawn to the unfinished ill fitting gap in the carpet...

The devil is in the details I guess. But I'd call that a win.

While that dries, I grabbed a door sill trim piece from a buddies 67 to see if this is something I want on mine...

I can make a pair of these at work with our brake, maybe stainless or brushed.

More today, thanks guys.

The Pilch Sat Jan 04, 2025 3:24 pm

It was cold today - snowing on and off and abrisk breeze, so I could only stand it - even with a propane heater going - for almost 3 hrs.

In that time, after test fitting the kick panel pieces, more masking ensued - this is where the carpet edge is stuck down...

...a little glue along the heater channel and around the very top "bound" section so it tucks up in that recess, and a strip of glue along the floor to tuck it in tight...

Same on the other side, and some tape to help that glue bond firm...

The carpet piece for the front section requires a hole to be punched right about here...

...for the "brights" switch that my car has.
At Harbor Fright, there's a grommet punch kit for about $5, which I already had, so I used the punch to make the hole...

then I glued the carpet in place, along the top edge, around the brights switch, and a little along the width of the carpet about half way up...

The Pilch Sat Jan 04, 2025 3:36 pm

While the propane afterburner was blasting, I hung the front section of carpet up to warm it a little, as it was all bent and buckled from being stuffed in the TMI box..

I placed the main carpet in the car and tucked it how it should be. No glue, because I have to pull it up soon, to install a new ebrake boot - the one I have is cack. Anyways, the TMI Deluxe carpet kit is nice...not amazing, a bit thin if I'm honest, and certainly not a very good fit with regards to curves and placement of vent holes/shifter etc, as you can see here in the pics, it's not what I would expect for the money and there's a lot of fiddling about needed. Also patience which I don't have much of these days.

Anyways, here it is so far without being glued down...

Cheers fellas!

Carpet looks great! I’m about to install speaker kick panels and recarpet that area. Thanks for the inspiration.

You bet Rich! Can't wait to see pics of what you achieve!

Thanks, certainly won’t be as nice of what you have going on.

So, first off I’ve been following this build since the beginning. The trials and tribulations, quietly lurking in the back ground and you’ve done a Really great job with this. Colour pallete- very nice.
I just wanted to point a small detail about the way the heater channel carpet meets the foot well.
This one from an original unmolested car from the gallery.

Just how the flap sits over the top.
Kind of a minor detail, but if it’s not too late….
Anyways, nice job all round !

The Pilch Sat Jan 11, 2025 7:37 pm

Well balls n ass I'm pretty sick just in time for the weekend, quite the chest cold so I won't be going out there in the chill. Hope you are all ok, and any of our California people sending our best thoughts.

@brass gears thank you my friend - for your kind words and taking time to be present on my little thread - cheers!

And YES that's a great pic, ALAS I didn't lay mine correctly, need to pull that flap back from under the carpet like in your photo here - hopefully I can rectify that - might be stuck fast!

Thanks again!

How is the car coming along? I still need to get down your way to check it out.

Hey Mr. Pilch - any updates? You were getting so close!

The Pilch Wed May 07, 2025 5:45 pm

Hey you guys! Nothing to update, the last little while has been busy as all hell - but soon, it'll start again I promise.

Thank you so much!! The hard work starts right here...I left it far too long and thanks to my step-daughters man Lando, and his new seat covers for his bus that we put on the other day, I became inspired and went for a big push...with the help of Lando, Julia and my wife...couldn't have done it without them...

We had to make a shade, it was 101F

Side and rear glass back in!! ^^^

We went inside to put all the seats back together...

and finally, the interior is back in (except the driver and passenger door, that'll be this weekend. Here's the front seats...

And the rears, with door cards. Please ignore my headliner. If I could do it again...I would have a pro do it. It's not the best.

The tweed is a little weak....it tore, but Julia sewed a strengthening strip in which worked absolutely perfectly. Lando was pushing me all day, which was very much needed. He was even up for putting the windshield in at 9pm on a Sunday, which I was not but what a guy!

Anyways, this weekend Clyde will be by so we can get these doors back together!!

Hope you're all doing well and enjoying your summer!

Pilch.
