Hello! I need to decide on whether I want vinyl or cloth for an upcoming split bus build. I live in Texas, and something tells me not to do vinyl. Does anyone here disagree with that? The white vinyl does look nice, but I just worry about sticking to it. I could be convinced otherwise if I am wrong.

With that being said, if I go cloth, who are some companies you could recommend who make good auto fabric? Thanks for any help!

TMI makes a great product, but all they show for a bus is various vinyl materials:

Sew Fine is tough to beat for quality and selection ... but they are pretty pricey. More info here:

If you are wanting to go with white, the smooth vinyl will obviously be the easiest to keep clean, but I get the your concern about it being sticky to the skin ... and it's hot in the summer/cold in the winter. A textured vinyl would be a little less so, but maybe harder to keep clean. Maybe smooth vinyl with fabric insert panels? That way you'd have vinyl in the high-wear edges where it is more likely to soil and breathable fabric in the center area. Sew Fine should be able to do this for you if you want to go that route. Just something to consider.

Use original style vinyl, use cloth seat covers.

I'm with team vinyl too.

Suggest that you wear clothing while driving your split.
That way you don't have to regrow you epidermis after climbing out on a hot day!

I'm in Arizona.

I had the factory vinyl seats in my 1970 VW reupholstered locally with cloth back in 1976.

Personally, I don’t like vinyl or leather.
If you go to a local upholstery shop, then you can use whatever color and material you choose.
It doesn’t have to be an automotive upholsterer either.
The guy who did my seats does work for several interior designers but in his words: “upholstery is upholstery”.
