Hi everyone. I’m looking for a good mechanic to get some work done on my bug.
Full VW specific shops would be great, but I’m also looking for someone I could trust to do simple things like alignments, etc.
Thanks. |

For alignments I just go to my local Express Oil Change and Tire Engineers.
They have new machines and have Beetle/Ghia specs in the system. $90.00 for an alignment.
For engine, mechanical and electrical there is Vintage VW in Jasper/Talking Rock. I’ve been by there many times but I tend to do all the wrenching myself so I don’t know much about their operation but they’re a pretty big operation with lots of cars in the lot so they stay busy. |

I had a very bad experience at Vintage VW about 8 years ago. Maybe they have changed ownership by now. |

I too have had an experience there a couple of months ago and I'd rather not bash them, but it was not satisfactory. |

They used to "square up" Indy cars with string and a tape measure in the pits. It's a handy trick. You don't need to be an engineer to do it even though I'm an engineer... 8)
On a regular old Bug ball joint front end (if I remember correctly) just make sure the notch in the camber eccentric faces forwards on both sides. Then dial in a little toe. I always went with 3/16" toe- in. If nothing is bent, that will work...
Then again, I never looked up the actual numbers. After all, I'm an engineer. :D
Been doin' it that way since way before the internet was a twinkle in its momma's eye.
