My high beam is stuck on, used to work!

Also with the lights off I cant flash the head lights, shouldn't I be able to?

Thinking the relay has failed, checking it with a multi meter shows;

Closed circuit between terminal 30 & S,

Closed circuit between 56 & 56a,

Open circuit between 56 & 56b.

Diagram on relay shows;



So,,

56 & 56a should be normally open,

56 & 56b should be normally closed,

Or does the small triangle / arrow on the top 2 vertical lines mean that's when it has power / signal to trigger it - so its shown in the energised positions?

I tried pulling the multi plug off the bottom of column which should prove the signal arm terminals arent stuck closed & the high beam is still on.

popped the relay cover off, luckily contacts not welded / fused but prob mechanism is just worn - has to much play,

There's a little lever off the plate that the coil pulls down that triggers the contacts to latch / unlatch.

It was latched on Hi beam & the arm hadn't flicked back over far enough to be able to release the catch.

The clicking you hear isn't actually the coil etc, its the latch mechanism working.

Seems to work 90% of the time but cant still get stuck so will prob need to replace it, told aftermarket ones are crap so will have a look for a NOS one.

To answer your previous question the small triangle indicates a momentary contact, in that case it powers the high beams from #30 when the lever is pulled, AKA passing lights.

Play with the arm and spring tension in there, lots of times you get lucky and fix it, wost case it was already broken before you started, you have nothing to lose.

You can find original used ones and take your changes.
Often, cleaning contacts (internal and external) and adding some Bosch grease to the sliding parts makes them work like new.
