View original topic: Carpet cut out for seat - 1950 standard

Can someone help me with how much to cut out the carpet for the seats in a 50 standard? I purchased a very nice carpet set for my standard from Marcus, but since there aren't seat tracks on a standard pan, I don't know where to allow for the seat to rest. I'm thinking simply to cut around the seat frame area, as I can't imagine the seat rests on the carpet before tightening the wing nut. Thanks

Bumping this thread - maybe I need to ask a different way.

For anyone who has an original standard split window beetle, is the outer seat frame next to each door sitting on top of the carpet, or is the carpet area cut out and the seat frame sits directly on the floor pan?

Thanks

I do not know, but i would say there is no risk to letting the seat sit on the carpet. worst case scenario is it makes marks on the carpet so you will know where to cut.

So true! I've been searching through the gallery looking for pictures that would show me what I'm looking for. I'd rather not cut the carpet if I am not supposed to.

I will check on mine and let you know!

On my 11/52 Zwitter standard, the carpet is cut and goes up to the seat frame. The seat frame sits on the floorpan

I have mine resting on top of the carpet, which I have seen on some standard restorations, but originally the standards only had the rubber mat on the tunnel, and the original carpet wasn't that long to be underneath on the outer frame from what I've seen. I do like it on mine; it adds 1% more comfort. 😂 I hope that helps.

There are two wingnuts, just make a little hole in the carpet were the screw is. This is not rocket since

For what it's worth.

These pics aren't of a split standard, they're of a 1957 Canadian Custom (standard). They show the carpets that cover the heater channel are cut around the seat and have a binding/border at the edge.
