I have a 1976 Brasil beetle with stock 1300 single port engine i was recently driving car and it just lost power and popped through exhaust and shut off . Tried to restart but after spinning over it popped through exhaust . Coil was very hot . I tried replacing the coil it was still doing the same thing , so I put in my spare Distributer that has points thinking that the electronic ignition had burn up or the bran box but never changed still would not crank and after spinning over would still get pop through exhaust . Help what do I try next?

Check first to make sure that the horizontal pivot rod in the fuel pump hasn't backed out.

Second, spray some aerosol starting fluid into the air cleaner or carb, try to start, do this a few times. If it runs for a few seconds then quits out, you have a fuel delivery issue, start there. If it won't run at all when you do this, then it's a spark issue, work on that. This is a common first test to help isolate the problem. This is practically an ALWAYS: isolate whether spark or fuel. And remember: just because the engine can crank/spin engine fine, doesn't mean that the electrical part of the ignition switch (the "run" circuit) is OK. If it's a fuel problem, CAREFULLY check to make sure fuel is reaching the carburetor.

Thanks for the reply . I have tried fuel in carburetor to see if it made any difference but still no luck the fuel filter also shows fuel , could it be fouled plugs?

Could be if the engine is tired and burns lots of oil. Usually only one plug fouls at a time though not all of them at the same time.
