Getting one increases the shaded space by 1/3 to 1/2 of most regular pull out awnings is all. Not everyone's cupa. But I tell you what - every time I whip it out, all the ladies want to come and see. 😎🤙🌺
But that is not a Vanagon ;)
Did you see my pictures up above of my 1977 Westfalia bus? Now a page back. |

I was trying to joke about the women are not going there to see the awning, but the bus. |

I have seen a bunch of pix with the "wrong" awnings(driver side mounted on passenger side) mounted on a vanagon so that the wing extends over the windshield rather than the tailgate. That looks like a smarter option as you can sit in the swivel seat or slider area and be shaded. |

The front and rear "overhang" on the side is nice to have, but still not convinced about the part above the rear hatch. |

Thanks for the vid, I get it now. 8)
But indeed there IS one question and concern I will now share…
Isn’t 270 degrees too hot for an awning?
Carry on, and you’re welcome. |

Late to the party…how to mount on a pop top with no roof rack? Same/similar to ARB, etc…???
Currently running an ARB knockoff with 2 GW mounts. I could see this bad boy requiring 3?
Link to functional mounts, plz?

Comes with 2 pretty heavy duty brackets. I'm mounting some custom gutter mounts I have to save myself any headaches. I swear these vans turn into the gift that keeps on giving.

I bought the Overland Vehicle Systems 270 degree awning. To mount it to the Westy, I got 4 of the Gowesty Fiamma awning mounts. They are stainless steel and pretty solid. I spent some time boxing in the upper portions of the brackets to add some strength to them. One of the brackets above the slider had to have the lower section cut off.
When deployed with out any support poles, it does sag down a bit. But, it is easy to open and close, has great coverage and can be tied down solidly to handle the west coast winds.
We are quite happy with it.
I am 6'2" and our westy is running Gowesty 1.5" lift springs. The front bracket, seen here, will have a support plate that will reach back to the awning back plate, just to add a little more support.

$685 at the moment…why am I not jumping on this deal? :D
https://www.extremeterrain.com/ovs-tundra-nomadic-...lsrc=aw.ds
I’ve camped in places I had to park very close to trees…is it possible to deploy
& secure only <part> of this awning, say…just over the slider & front door?

It is just under 8' out from the slider and only 7' out from the back. If you have room to unfold it at the slider, you should almost have room to open it all the way.
It is also a good excuse not to camp so close to others. But it can be used as a partial deployment. Just keep some of it bunched up and use the tie-downs to keep it spread.
