| I recently got my hands on a '60 Kombi. With M Plate chassis #629598. It looks like it should have a 40HP engine in it. I saw an ad for a "40HP" motor from Dec 1959, But I thought that the 40HP didn't go into production until June of '60. anyone have any info on this? |

Keep in mind that the bus only commonly referred to "Bastard 40 HP" was really a 36 HP engine, but with longer 40 HP crankshaft, detachable generator stand, and many other changes/upgrades. After VW found out that their new engine was flawed, they redesigned it to come out with the real 40HP engine. |
