Years ago I saw a BAJA with the reduction boxes be layed down.
How is that done?
I have seen the no hop kit but looking for lower gearing rather than ground clearance.

You could run them vertical , flat , or upside down if you really wanted to. You just have to make the brackets to mount it how you want it.
When i built my set up i laid them back about 5 or 10 degrees. I swear stock they look like they are rotated forward a little.
Do a google search , youll find some pictures of some lay down set ups that were made

There 2 basic types of no-Hop kits.

One was with the Reduction boxes upright in normal position.

The other is laid down. Makes for about 3" longer wheelbase and more leverage on your torsion bars. But they were pretty popular on race cars in the late 70s. May be a view or 2 in the Baja Bugs & Buggies book. I forget.

Aahhh Hell. My hips hurt from the cancer that has spread into the bones and my gout is bugging me tonight, but I grabbed my cane and hobbled to the bookcase and pulled out my proof-read copy of Baja Bugs & Buggies.

Not a real good view though. Hardly worth the effort.

Bus reduction mounts from John Johnson products in the late 1970s:

Good read on the subject:
