View original topic: Air coming from heat knob and emergency brake holes in chassis

I've noticed that while I drive my 50 standard Beetle, a stream of air flows out of the hole for my heat pull knob and emergency brake handle pivot point. Now that the air has gotten a little cooler outside, I've started to notice cool air on the bottom of my right forearm.

Is this expected? The chassis is restored, and all seals replaced. I do not have an emergency brake boot installed as from what I've found, a July 1950 standard Beetle didn't have a boot from the factory.

Is the cover at the front of the frame head missing? I had the same problem with my early oval.

Yeah, I was thinking that, or way more rust than you thought you had!

Chassis is restored and rust-free :-)

Frame head cover is installed and has a gasket. I'll double check that the gasket hasn't shrunk over the years allowing air in.

The other entry points I've checked is where the clutch and accelerator cable exit towards the engine, and I have a gasket/cover over that point.

Maybe find a smoke generator and feed it into the tunnel, check for leaks.

Good Idea. Pressed air in the tunnel? But suggest to check the area of the oval holes for the 4 screws M10 (napoleon head) also. Are there any holes? Also any welding seam is critical, as well as the front cap and gasket along the wire to the brake light switch.
