So I need to replace the small ground beneath the points plate, it came apart.Does anyone know how to do this? I can’t find any info on it.
Does the pin need to come out at the base? |

| Yes, you need to remove the pin. Not the offset of the drive so you reinstall it correctly. |

Take a picture so you can get the offset correct when going back together, otherwise you have a 50/50 chance of being wrong. |

| Thanks for the replies. Should there be much movement when moving the points plate up and down? |

Hello,
There are post in the Sticky(s) "Tech Tips" under the engine section, on how to rebuild Distributors... That may help you out. |

Bill did a fantastic write up on rebuilding the 113 905 205T distributor.
Cheers!

I'm all for removing the stop, but I drove for years before learning about the ground wire, which is a solder-on part IMO, not something to rebuild the distributor for.
Eliminating slop is definitely worth the time and effort. As is cleaning the pivot plate mechanism, and giving the cam a thorough cleaning/lubricating.

That ground wire breaks off a lot. You can just run your own ground wire. You do not need to solder it back onto the unit. You can run the ground from the points screw to the condenser screw.
As for rebuilding the distributor, there are other topics that say to sand the bushing on top before you reinstall the plate. Do not do this. You should never need to sand a bushing that is already there. All that sanding does it create more wear. All you need to do is apply a little oil and the plate goes on nice and smooth.
If there is a slop where you can push and pull the plate up and down there is likely a fiber washer and/or shim missing. Make sure to use OE fiber washers with dimples in them. Lots of people out there selling and using aftermarket washers without the dimples. The dimples are there for a reason and that is to hold oil.
I have the units for sale outright:
