Since you are going to keep your radiator and okay, nothing wrong with that.
You need to be ready for a cooling emergency in your spares you carry.
- 2 bottles of Subaru Coolant conditioner.
- Silicone "Rescue Tape" for hoses & pipes.
- Zip-ty's to go over the ends of the silicone rescue tape just to make sure it does not come loose.
- Hose clamps. not one for each hose, but a few that would fit the biggest hose as you can make them smaller to fit.
- pvc Hose Barbs. If you get a blown hose you can cut it and re-join it by inserting a hose barb. Saves trying to find a specific hose in the middle of Death Valley.
-Hose clamp tool. To crimp & seal a hose if it blows and you need to repair it using a pvc hose barb. You do not have to drain off the valuable coolant that hasn't steamed off when you splice the hose.
This set at Harbor Freight work very well and fit into tight places.

Alternatively- you can use two pieces of wood clamped onto a hose with a vise grips to close off a hose.
Also, before you go you should "check-tighten" each hose clamp as they do loosen up from normal engine vibration. |
