1986 Westfalia

- new wiring harness
- new ECU
- rebuilt Idle Control Unit

Started last fall when I drove it home from garage after extensive work. Now it won't start.

- fuel pump not getting current (fuel pump works)
- radiator fan coming on as soon as I turn ignition
-
Any suggestions on where to start trouble shooting? I'm electrically challenged..
thanks, Herrie in Invermere, BC

Make sure the air conditioning is switched off.
That is a common reason why the rad fan runs when the key is turned on.

Inspect wiring for rodent damage.

Can you hear the fuel pump relay click? Both the FI and FP relays are in the black box to the left side of the engine compartment.

What did the shop that did all the wiring tell you?

Thanks everyone for the tips. Will advise when sorted.

Just to rule out the obvious, are you saying it hasn't been started since last fall? How strong is the battery? I know you said the fan came on, so there is some juice. What did it sound like when you tried to start it?

Question regarding ICU. Is green dot supposed to line up with the plug that has the green wire? See photo below.

Still trying to figure out starting issue. But have eliminated the following:

- battery
- spark/ignition
- fuel pump
- engine relays

I'm now focused on my recently replaced ECU and the Idle Control Unit.

Thanks...forum is very helpful in working through the issue.
