View original topic: 28 PCI Carb, no fuel

Ok, carb help for amateur, I bought a carb “off running engine” but she’s not pumping fuel. Engine fires up fine with some starting fluid, but won’t produce any fuel. Fuel pump has plenty of pressure, bowl has fuel. Any standard issues to check ? 36hp engine. 28 pci carb

Unscrew the brass bolt on the left hand side of the carb. It will be 14 mm. It has a jet screwed into the end of it. Unscrew that jet and make sure it is clear. Between the jet and the emulsion tube, the thing in the center of the carb with the four holes pointing in the cardinal directions, the only possible problem is a plugged main jet. If the main jet is plugged the carb will have to come completely apart and get really well scrubbed.

ok, I will pull the Jet carrier. i only loosened to confirm fuel was in bowl. I'll try that 1st to see the results after cleaning.

I’ve pulled the jet carrier. Blew air through jet and no blockage. Also blew compressed air into orifice before putting jet carrier back in. Air and fuel vapor came though emulsion tube. I assume that passage is clear since fuel air came up and out?

However still no fuel to keep engine running.

Any filters along the fuel line path from the tank?

Not at this point. It’s sitting on an engine stand. Just using an outboard engine gas tank right now.

If you have it on a stand, that sure makes it way easier!

Sounds like it is plugged up! Have you tried shooting some carb cleaner through those openings. That will tell you if they are clear.

Ok. Broke the carb down ( top off. Jet out. Jet carrier out, float out). Blew it full of carb cleaner to ensure flow. The blew it all out with air. Back together and fired it up. Seems to be pumping

I did notice it has a port for vacuum dizzy. I’m running a blue screamer that doesn’t have advance. Assuming I need block that off?

Now it’s on to adjustment. I’ll have to do some research on that …

Yes, you need to block off the vacuum port if you are not using it.

I'm surprised it runs at all with it open but I've never tried that.

You said this is a 36hp so it's a 28 PCI, correct?
You said PIC above, which is a later/40hp carb.

Bus-style 28 PCI carb with the port blocked off with a little screw

Thanks ev. I’ll get a plug at hardware and get it closed. It actually purrs like a kitten at idle.

Yea, it’s a PCI.

Does anyone know what size that screw is to block off the vacuum/dizzy port on the 28 pci. Thanks

I think the thread is M6x1.
