I was wondering if anyone has tried using a Bimini top they sell on Amazon for $86, marketed for Jeeps? I'm having a hard time considering paying The Thing Shop's crazy $700 Bikini top prices, and regular soft tops for $1100 - $1400!

Looks like a cheap possible solution until you consider that you'll also need a roll bar/show bar to serve as the frame for the top and some means to attach the front of the top to the top of your windshield frame.
Das Tank used to sell a cheap bikini top that also required their roll bar or yours as a frame and came with a mounting rail that required that you drill a series of holes across the top of your windshield frame for attachment. Not being one for adding a bunch of additional holes to something that is already very susceptible to rust made me take a hard pass but if your Thing is a "beater" (mine is not) then just drill away.
Good luck. |

Yeah, I saw some threads with references to Das Tank that even included links, but they're apparently no longer around. Not sure I want to drill a bunch of holes along the window frame. I may have to come up with something that's functional as I don't plan on taking my 181 on any speeds over 40mph (just an in-town car). |

i bought one of those Das Tank bikini tops and wondered if a super strong earth magnet would hold it to the windshield frame? |

Didn't you ask this same question 5 years ago? If you bought one from Das Tank before they folded, have you tried to use magnets to attach it?
There's a reason that the bikini tops from The Thing Shop are so expensive. That's because they include a full front header that attaches to the windshield frame via the same latches that are used for a regular soft top or fiberglass top. Their bikini top also includes rear bows that attach to the same rear pivot points used for a regular soft top. |
