I own a 72 westafalia with a 1700 type 4 engine equipped with a solex tcic 32/34.

Im trying to make it idle but after the chock disengage the engine run at very low rpm and then stopping.

At driving, I fill a lack of power at the lower RPM range. mid & high rev fills good.

when the engine is hot, it does not hold idle at all and stop almost immediately.

I have tried to find information about the the carb but the only thing I found is the exploded view of the carb and some installation guides (from thwSamba).

Can someone guide me on how to idle the engine with this carb?
How the throttle stop screw should be set? How the volume screw affect the idle and how should it set? min\max turning? initial setup?

What happened on my Weber progressive was acting just like yours. I used carb cleaner on it first and could look through and blow air thru each jet. After that I used torch cleaner wires to insert thru each jet and bit of jelly like crud came out of each one. With that liner in each jet from ethanol fuel and sitting I guess that was the problem because it worked perfectly again. I carry a set of those needles now in my toolbox. Harbor Freight has those.

This is some variant of a progressive carburettor .

You have an idle screw for use when the choke is on, it is labelled high idle.

There are two screws that needs adjustment to set the hot idle speed . It looks like you only have the volume screw to set the hot idle mixture, plus the throttle stop screw.

Wait until it is warmed up and then adjust, moving screws a small amount and waiting for the effect on the engine..

You will have to perform adjustment with the two screws, first to make it idle then try and get it to accelerate better.

In general a single carburettor fitted without heating for the manifold does not work well on a VW engine.

Somebody in the past fixed the engine using a what was a cheap carburettor .

It will work but always be worse than having dual carburettors ..

Set your timing at 28-32° BTDC @3800+ rpm, hose(s) removed from the vacuum can and plugged.

High chance you might damage a jet by running a wire through it. I have found that a toothpick works well for this purpose and should make harming a jet less likely.

I run ethanol free gas when I can find it.
