So my next issue I need to take care of with my baja is my driver window that is a hot mess. Years ago I replaced all the window channel with new including new clips and a new regulator. Well the channel just wore the regulator out. Eventually the channel became a gooey mess and I have to keep my door panel off so I can "assist" the window rolling up. And I still can't get it all the way and there's always a 1/4" open which is why I need to get after this before the rain comes.
I've tried asking the folks in the standard beetle forum, but I think they are a little tired of this topic and they don't like doing anything unconventional. So I figured I'd ask here where we all are used to making things work regardless if it's original or not, hoping that someone has figured out a better solution.
I'm wondering if anyone has a clue as to any alternatives to use for the channel beside what's available from the parts houses which is really useless junk.
I found a trick that worked for the short bit of channel in the vent window where you just apply some regular felt with some contact adhesive. That had helped quite a lot. But I'm still grabbing at the back part of the window where it comes out of the door. If I could find a channel that fits the gap but isn't comprised of black melting goo I'd like to try that before I waste the money on another regulator and burn that up. These regulators are so wimpy and that's part of the problem. |

I have no idea. Never seen it or how it's used. Would that be similar to what I did with the vent side channel? I'd be down with that as long as I don't get rattling. |
