Ok, so I finally have time to install the new Pertronix system, ignitor, coil, and wires. Wires changed, LUCKILY has 4 new plugs downstairs due to needing the ball tip on the plugs! As for the ignitor, I have a '74 Thing and got the the 1847V kit and I have a DVDA distributor.
Now, when installing the magnetic ring, and Pertronix says to "push firmly" on the ring,........how much force!? I have two thumbs on the ring and it is NOT going down all the way. I have lined up the 4 notches in the ring to line up with the 4 bumps on the cam. This is approximate as I have a bit of back-and-forth play with the ring and tried to set it in the middle of the play before pushing down. I did see one post about #3 cylinder being timed off by a few degrees and if I didn't have the ring lined up properly, it won't go on. BS? or? there's nothing about that in the instructions.
Oh, by the way, yes, I see there is a bottom and top to the ring, the top had a small flange that stops it going on very far at all.
Another post had links to a short video where the installer had a deep socket placed on the ring and he hit the socket with his hand. Would this work? I've seen several posts where people have talked about breaking rings trying to get them on.

Twist and push until it slides down.

Us a deep socket that fits over and push. Make sure the mechanical advance moves freely.
