Hello all.
New to the bug world and need some feedback back on this bug. Thanks in advance.

Missing wipers, wiper regulator, & probably motor.

Missing overrider supports & towel bars on bumpers.

Missing antenna.

Missing fresh air tubes & preheat tubes, holes in tin means preheated air recirculating into engine.

Missing hose between oil separator & air cleaner.

Looks like there’s no heat exchangers.

Wrong distributor.

Lots of crappy paint covering over who knows what (especially seeing the ZERO RUST in the spare tire well.). That’s a lot of heavy pitting for an area that should be less prone to the elements. (If it’s that rusted there, it’s worse elsewhere.

Missing sound deadening tar boards in engine bay.

Appears to have had the headliner removed.

Side moldings removed, holes filled…. With what? Welded up or just puttied over?

They made sure to paint the old deck lid seals, but couldn’t paint the inside of the deck lid or door jambs.

Well the asking price is better than the others ...

It may run and drive, but the seller admits it needs work to be a driver and describes it as a project. I believe you were really hoping for a driver that you could enjoy as you made improvements. Without a thorough inspection it's had to tell how much time and money it would take to make it a safe and reliable driver. (Brake overhauls can get expensive ... clutch? ... engine is missing stuff ... wouldn't drive it that way.). Ask yourself if you are okay with diving into a project or really want a car that is a driver as purchased.

On the upside, it looks stock, appears to be straight, the window rubber has been replaced and the upholstery is passable (front passenger backrest looks wonky ... maybe just not installed right ... maybe a broken stud). Could be a good foundation for a restoration.

Well, seeing everything it needs you'll spend 20k to get it halfway decent, not perfect, I bet.

If you can afford 12k, go looking online for a 67 in better shape with ACTUAL no rust. You'll be much better off. The 67 in those pics looks like a 3-4k car imo

Man what a basket case. That thing looks like something someone got for free and threw a couple rattle cans at it tryin' to make a quick buck (or 6,000).

Speaking of free, Maiz, that car needs to be stripped to the bone to be made right, whether bit by bit, or all at once, and a car that needs that kind of work should be damned near free. By the time you got done, you'd probably be 10 - 15 $K into it ( ^ ^ or more ^ ^ ). Is that what you want? Let some desperate sucker deal with that hot mess and keep searching.

You're generous, when even the old duct tape is worn out, I would call it something much different than passable :?

Maiz,

If you want to post images of cars you see on TheSamba, you don't have to screenshot them and save them to your gallery if you don't want to.

Just open a 2nd tab, then right-click on the image in the ad and select "Copy image address," then go back to your post window and use the Img tags up on the menu and paste the link (if you're doing everything on a phone, you may not be able to "copy image address").

Click Img first, then paste the link, then click Img* (which will close the link with [/img].

Steve

Thanks. All. Moving on. Starting to better understand what to look for. Been browsing the Muir manual. Thanks for the posting advise. Be well and have a good night.

It's all relative, Steve. In his first post (several cars ago) Maiz said he wanted a driver that he could run errands in etc. while working on improving the car. (He has said nothing since then to suggest he has changed his criteria.) Most of the upholstery in this specimen is in one piece ... driver quality ... even if the rest of the car is far from that.

I appreciate that Maiz is asking for observations and opinions, but I still think there is also value in going to see a car even if it is unlikely he'd make an offer on it. It is first hand, eyes on/hands on experiences that will help familiarize him with the details and make him a more astute and critical buyer. Without that kind of experience, you don't know what you don't know about what to look for. Any experience you learn from isn't a waste of time.
