Do VWs of the mid-50s era have lines on the speedometers between 20 and 40 mph?
I am asking because Porsche 356s have lines on the speedometer as you can see in the photo. The story behind these lines is that in the mid-50s German law required some kind of indication of the common speed limit in towns. It seems kind of strange to me that they would make MPH speedometers comply with German law.
If VWs do not have this speed range indicator I'm guessing that would shoot the story down.
Thank you.

The only "in town" speed limit warning indicator that I know of was on early 60's Euro VW Beetles. A thin rectangular slot was cut into the dial at the 50 km/hr mark, and backed with a red film so that the speedo light would light it up at night. |

No, but the VW Speedos indicate when you should shift to the next gear.
