View original topic: Throttle Cable Linkage Popping Off

My throttle cable has the ball socket linkage and popped off twice this afternoon going down the road. What do I need to do to secure this? There is no way to tighten it. Is it worn out and I just need to replace or is there way to fix it?

Obviously I do not want to venture out again until I figure this out.

Thank you!

Usually those will have a clip like this

There are several sizes available from retailers but when is place it would look like this:

You should be able to get one with the right diameter.

Thank you for the reply! I may just change out the connection type altogether. Seems like this type of connection is less common and a silly design in my opinion.

The ball / socket can wear out and pop off. Those clips posted above are correct, but the ball should still hold reasonably tight with out it.

You can also get these joints from Gene Berg:

I ordered some for my Weber carbs a few years back. Nice quality and the rubber boot keeps the ball clean and greased so the linkage always moves smooth.

You’d have to confirm this size to your existing rod, or just replace all the parts. Hard to beat the price.
