Earlier this year I acquired a 1979 Super Beetle convertible with 74K miles on the original 1600 CC engine. The former owner installed a single 34 carb after removing the factory fuel injection system. I was given a kit with dual Weber single barrel IDF's which I intend to install during a re-build of the engine. Not trying to build a drag racer but considering upgrading to 1776 CC with a performance cam and a balanced high flow but QUIET exhaust system. Any and all comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I remember driving the FI bugs 75 up, they ran great. I’d ask your question in the performance forum but a 1776 built mostly stock is a great choice. Spend the money to balance the lower end and use CW crank if it’s going to see RPMs. The fueled heads use smaller valves. Again I’d ask the performance gurus and they’ll ask “what kind of driving” will you be doing? |

There is currently 2 1776 engine builds being discussed in the performance forum.

Read through them and see if there is any info you can glean from what has already been posted.
If you still have questions, start a new thread with your specific engine build in mind. They really don't mind multiple threads on the same engine size but differently configured. |
