Hey Guys, I have a 1960 ragtop that had a new 4” narrowed beam when I bought it. The car was partially assembled and it seems rather poorly. I ended up getting new narrowed torsion springs but originally reused the poly bushings. The more I research it seems I may need to do more. The beam does not have any zirk fittings as of now.
I have a few questions…
There are no stops internal to the beam, can I use needle bearings instead of the poly bushing/sleeve?
Does it matter where I install zirk fittings on either end? Can they 8-10” in to clear the bushing/sleeve?
I’d rather do it right this time around before I get too far into it.
Thanks! |

The zirk needs to be between the inner and outer bushing. Usually bearings will not fit the tube used to make narrowed beams, which is why I prefer to use a German beam to start with, though it is much more work.

My beam was completely hollow/empty with the exception of the piece in the middle that retains the torsion springs and allows you to raise or lower the front end. This is what i have that slides into the beam and then the torsion arms slide into these.
