I have a 1987 Westfalia. The mirror on the passenger side visor is not lighting up. I can get a replacement bulb but I don't know how to remove the mirror from the visor. It's fitted in very tight and I don't want to break it. I know you cannot get original style ofreplacement visors. How can it be safely removed? Thanks |

Hello!
You can pull it with your fingers if you have strong fingers, or a spatula, the whole frame is just clipped on. |

Chances are the 40 year old plastic clips are going to break. Be prepared to use some mastic or other "sticky" stuff to hold it back in. If it were me, I'd just leave it alone. |

Install an LED bulb so you wont ever have to replace it again. I hate old brittle plastic when it comes to service on such parts.
Good luck
(PS the LED bulb should help the plastic last long, less heat
However for removal, you might try some heat with a hair dryer to help make the plastic a bit less brittle before attempting to pry the cover off. certainly do not try the prying on an ice cold winter morning when plastic will be very cold and more brittle. Get her nice and warm. |

Thank you, and yes, I have considered all of your reply recommendations. I also I am concerned about the age of the plastic and it breaking. I do have a replacement LED bulb and just have to decide whether to take the chance or leave it alone. I've had four Westies since 1990, used as my everyday drivers as well as travel, and I know full well how the old parts can break.. by experience, ugh. It's also one reason that many shops won't work on older cars, Vanagon or otherwise. |
