View original topic: Alternatives for new clutch disks?

Are there any new (stock 210mm) clutch disks for our 411/412s on the market?
Is re-lining an alternative?
I also have a 914 flywheel on the shelf, they have a 215mm disc, complete clutches are available new, thought of using that as an alternative but unsure if the shaft splines are the same and other possible issues... :?:

The 914 shaft splines do not fit. Oddly enough there are always a few NOS discs available on ebay. Here is a 215mm

On the other hand, I have been getting mine re-lined for a very long time. I have had some discs re-lined 2-3 times.
Ir is getting harder to find "common" re-lining shops but for quite some time there will still be truck shops that reline clutch discs.

Thanks Ray!
Thougt all 411/412 had the 210mm disc but looking in the parts catalogues it seems theat they changed from 215 to 210mm at the start of 1972 year model...a bit strange isnt it?

EDIT: Also the 215mm disc seems to have made a comeback on some 74 cars...makes it even stranger.

What about the type4 engined T2 210mm clutch kit....could it be an alternative for the 411/412 210mm clutch?

Sadly....no. totally different spline size. Also, if you could find a solid (no spr8ng) type 1 disc....and if the rivet pattern is the same as the type 4 disc.....a clutch shop could swap the hubs.

The sad part :D ....is that you are going through the same logic and research issue that I started for myself back in the 1990's......I was beating my head against the wall. It t9ok me years to find a 412 with a manual transmission (and in reality I converted my four door saloon to manual with all of the parts from a 2 door wreck).......only go find that the clutch discs are unique and hard to find.

But don't stop looking. I have always said that there MUST be some other cars that use this spline and also use a 200, 210 or 215mm clutch disc.

On the other hand, if you are really hurting for a disc.....I have several 210 and 215 NOS Luk brand dated ~1973. I can throw one in the mail for you.

As long as I have one for mine....and I also have quite a few good cores and finding a clutch rebuild shop is still relatively easy here.....I can part with one easily.
