| Replaced the shoes and adjusted the brakes on all 4 wheels so that they were dragging if I rotated the drum. Bled the brakes with a power bleeder, and while I was moving a lot of fluid, not much air and a very soft pedal. Car is back on the jackstands and I am going to try a vacuum bleeder. Any other suggestions? |

The pressure bleeder should do a better job for you than a vacuum bleeder.
If you insist on using a vacuum bleeder, put a blob of grease on (around) the threads where the bleeder screw enters the wheel cylinder, so you are not sucking air past those threads.
You could always get a helper and do it the old fashioned way. Adjust the shoes into contact with the drums before you start.
What is the condition of the master cylinder?
That is where I would look next.

| Yes, before you start tighten all brake shoes fully against each drum then start your pressure bleeding process. Also, the bleeder valve on each wheel cylinder can let air back in through the threads if you are not careful. |

I just did this a month ago...
the pressure bleeder worked fantastic. I have a motive brand.
brake adjustments are key. and getting the brakes adjusted up can be a pain with the double adjusters...
everything was new with my system though.... so your issue could be bad master cylinder as well. |

| Tried the vacuum bleeder, lots of bubbles, not much fluid. Went back to the pressure bleeder, not many bubbles, lots of fluid. End result, still no brakes. I ordered a master cylinder this morning. Hope UPS gets it here soon. Going to work on non-Thing projects in the meantime . |

One thing to try, is to over adjust your brakes up. turn adjusters up so the wheel is stopped. Then bleed your brakes and check pedal. after you know your pedal is good and your not just loosing all your pedal travel by extending the wheel cylinders, you can adjust your brakes down knowing you have good hydraulics. |

| Got the master cylinder installed and bled the brakes. Finally have a good pedal. Just need to bed the new shoes and I should be done. |
