I'm not sure if I'm posting in the correct place, but as there are very knowledgeable people here, someone will know :)

1950s rubber part with VW logo & part number 29.108.603.1 & also a rearing horse logo with numbers 3135513.

The hole is approx 60mm

Anyone know what's it from please ?

Barndoor Bus gas tank seal.

60mm is:
Chassis # 20-030868 until 20-047001
This is approx. 8/1952 - Early 3/1953

You can sort of see the location here in the upper left above the spare tire tray, although this is a later Bus

Thanks for that, the 60mm was puzzling me !

Can see the rubber in your pic.

Are barndoor bus & pickup tanks the same & do they both use that rubber part ?

Attached pics of fuel cap. It has "Cwi" & "mit luftung" logos. Presume latter means vented. It has no VW logo on top. Is it original ?

Ahh, that´s interesting. Did´n t know that.

EDIT:

Found out: barn door fuel tanks till 20 - 030 868 have cap 100 mm, then 60 mm (and again 100 mm).

I´ve a NOS fuel tank with 80 mm neck, cap like beetle from 8´55 till 7´60.

So it is for type 261, 263 till 2´55. Sorry.

Someone else should confirm but I believe the outlet on the bottom and the neck are both in different places on a Truck.

I don't recognize that fuel cap so it's probably a replacement.

I got and still have a NOS, old-style barndoor fuel tank. It looks similar as the one in pic, but has a neck for a 80 mm cap.

https://www.volkswagen-classic-parts.com/catalogues/TransporterT1/html5.html#/132

VW ETKA lists no fuel tanks or part numbers for busses till 2´55 for different types.

But for the types 261 + 263 the parts number is 261 201 055 till 20 - 117 901

If I got it right, a 80 mm neck and cap makes the tank type 261, 263

Caps:

100 mm till 20 - 030 867, 211 - 244, 111 201 551

80 mm, 111 201 551 A

60 mm, 211 201 551

The 60 mm caps that I know, have a VW-Logo on top. (they fit also as oil filler cap for beetle 8´55 and later)

(wondering about the type 1 part number for the 80 mm cap, but evtl. there was once a bus version without logo)

Here's the fuel tank listings from barndoor.dk

https://www.barndoor.dk/detaljer18.htm
and
https://www.barndoor.dk/detaljer42.html

The 2nd link above shows the difference in the inlet and outlet positions of Truck vs. Bus

I don't know if all trucks are the same other than the neck inlet size.

Here are the first 2 gas tank pages from a Barndoor Parts book.
No neck sizes are listed but there are different part #s for the Bus and Truck tanks
