Hi,
I am rebuilding my 2.2t engine and found that one rocker pin bore in the camshaft housing is severely damaged from a previous tearing down.
Do you think that some aluminium epoxy would do the trick to fill these gouges and then smoothing down the high points. There is no load in this area but it needs to be smooth to avoid leakage from the rocker pin.
I could locate another cam housing but really I am not sure that it would be 100% and I'd like to keep as much as possible the original parts.
My only concern would be that with the heating and cooling cycle some epoxy could detach from the bore and navigate in the oiling galleries.
Otherwise I was considering increasing the bore size and press a bushing in. Either made of aluminium or perhaps in bronze, same as the bushing used in the rods for the piston wrist pins.
What do you think ?

I have used JB Weld epoxy on the cylinder head of a 2.2T 911 engine to hold a loose exhaust stud and the heat didn’t damage it, so I see no reason it wouldn’t work to fill in those pits, then sand it smooth. You just need a smooth bore For the rocker shaft to expand and seal against. You could probably use some RTV silicone on them, but you occasionally need to remove those rocker shafts for maintenance so the epoxy route would probably be more permanent. |

Unless you have other damage we cannot see, those divots in the bore should not leak. Unless there are intersecting gouges connecting them with the inner or outer areas, they do not "communicate" if you know what I mean.

I have both some loctite 3479 aluminium epoxy that is rate to up to 190° celsius which should be more than enough. I'll fill the gouges and sand/flexhone the bores and use RSR seals on the pins. |
