Can anyone tell me why. This tool would be useful?
1/2 inch female on both ends
Appears to be homemade.

Farm or industrial machinery with square head fill/drain plugs maybe? |

Might not be a tool, but a universal joint for square steering/drive shaft. |

If it's drilled or has set screws Glenn wins, if it isn't then I agree with Mukluk. |

Run across a lot of old garage doors with square headed lag bolts holding the tracks to the wall. |

I'd put it with my 9mm combination wrench that I've used exactly once in 55 years..... |

Apparently you've never owned an 80's/90's GM product, they seem to use every odd wrench in both metric and imperial. :o |

Modern water cooled VW too. 16mm and 18mm are very common on suspension parts. 9mm fits clutch PP bolts and a few other parts.

My Jeep has SAE and metric fasteners, a mix circa 1990. Body is most all metric, drivetrain, suspension is most all SAE.
Double your pleasure, double your fun!
It also has AMC and Chrysler bits, a transition of maker thing back then. Then again it has also been modified with a Ford 9 inch rear end. I have to search at many suppliers for parts. |

Buy a Ford. You'll need that wrench, a T15 driver, a #1 phillips, and a special trim tool just to get one door panel off. ](*,) |

You know you are old when you can look at your wrenches and tell which one you haven’t used.
