View original topic: Looking for Bumper Guard Gasket/Beading

I'm trying to replace the U channel rubber gasket/beading that fits between the bumper guards and the bumper. I can find suppliers for the larger (~2" x 9") impact strips, but I can't find the U channel rubber. The steel bumper guards seem to be 16 gauge (1/16", 1.5mm) and the existing u channel is ~1/8" deep.

I assumed I could easily find some generic u channel rubber that would suffice, but I have not had any success in my searches. I would be grateful for any direction and/or advice on this.

Thank you in advance.

It’s been a few years but for my 356, I bought the correct rubber gasket material from Stoddard Porsche in Ohio, looks to be just what you need.

So you are looking for a small "u-channel" rubber strip that is ~1/8" deep in the groove and...how wide?

Lets say its 1/8". Lets look around.....

Check out that first part #. It lists 1/16th wide and 1/8" deep in the channel. Its correct outdoor trim EPDM rubber.

The second part # is 1/8" wide and 1/4" deep and would probably still work.

A 10' length of either would be about $12.

You might ask at the local hardware store. Stuff like this is in the window insulation area, for example.

what others said, but unless it is actually broken, the old might clean up in some goof off or acetone.

What a community! Thank you all for the thoughtful inputs. The old gaskets basically disintegrated when I removed them and already placed an order with McMaster-Carr. Thanks again!
